topshop grand opening

I was invited to visit Topshop Canada's new location at our local Chinook mall. I decided to attend, not because there was a giftcard on a string pulling at my teeth, but because I remember very fondly the time I visited Topshop in New York.

At the time I was 16 and felt like a small town girl who had no business walking into a store like Topshop. It was my first adventure to a place like New York City and I did not know if I was a fish out of water or exactly where I should be. I was young and afraid somebody would turn to me and say "You have to wear better clothes in order to shop here."

To my young heart's surprise, no scowls or unwelcoming gestures were given. All I could see was glitter and racks upon racks of the most interesting outfit options I've ever seen. I remember how happy I felt to walk through a store that finally understood my desire to dress differently than my friends. I ended up bringing two Topshop dresses home to Canada and they continue to sit like souvenirs in my closet.

To have a Topshop in my own city is a surreal thing! All of the Topshop folks at the grand opening were very welcoming and generous - they provided us with baby cupcakes, a tour of the store and a giftcard. I left with a new explorer hat and frilly pink socks.
