AMY NELSON RELEASES NEW SONG, VIDEO AND ALBUM
EDUCATED WOMAN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Educated Woman is a song, an album and an accompanying music video set to be released in April of 2019. The song itself is a crossroads of memory, location and the pursuit of individuality. The words lean into an anthem for those who are misunderstood, tired of it and demanding to be free to live as they wish to.

The debut album follows suit with a collection of 10 live off the floor recordings, all written by Nelson with the exception of two public domain songs. Educated Woman exists to represent Amy’s everyday experiences as a woman alongside her memories of longing, love and the often desperate and brooding feelings one may go through living in today's world.

With a folk-root sensibility and the ghostly drone of Nelson's archtop guitar meeting bowed bass, washboards, banjos and lapsteels, Educated Woman makes firm connections to songs in the rural folk music canon, while also having an identity of its very own. Nelson's fantastically expressive voice and quivering vibrato are present throughout each song -

The "Educated Woman” music video was made in collaboration with Albertan filmmaker Gillian McKercher, who also worked on Amy's 2017 music video How Long Blues. The idea was to create a technically and visually accomplished piece of video art to support Amy’s debut album of the same name.
